Gayness Galore

Homosexuality since time immemorial has been condemned across most cultures with the exception of the ancient Greeks who had accorded it open acceptance Socrates being the most famous pederast.

The reason for this universal condemnation of this so-called deviant sexual behavior, thus far believed to be unique to species homo sapience, is that it has always been considered an ‘unnatural’ ‘choice’ of carnal pleasure seeking perverts something which defeats the basic purpose of sex – procreation.

However, the truth, inconvenient for the so-called moralists, is that the preference for a partner of same sex is not restricted to humans only. In fact, in the entire animal kingdom homosexuality has been recorded in more than 1500 species and studied in detail in more than 500.

Be it lions, giraffes, dolphins, penguins or rams, in all the species there are ample exceptions to the rule that only opposites attracts each other. In certain species like Black Swans up to one fourth of all males are homosexuals. And among lions up to eight percent of all males are known to defy nature in choosing a sexual partner.

Obviously homosexuality is very much normal - a plain consequence of biology at work rather than that of a debauched mind at its worst, more so if the latest research done on rams – the most widely studied species – is to believed, and there is enough reason to believe it because it is backed by five years of work.

In a study published in the journal Endocrinology some time back researchers in the Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine led by physiologist Charles Roselli confirmed that a male sheep's preference for another male has biological origin. They demonstrated that certain groups of cells different between genders in a part of the sheep brain control sexual behavior, brain anatomy and hormone production which determine whether adult rams prefer other rams over ewes.

Now efforts are underway to find out if gay rams can be ‘straightened’ through medicines. However, results of whatever little research that has been done so far in this direction do not raise any hopes.

This research had raised unfounded fears in the international gay community that its findings may be used by the straight world to straighten them also.

In 2004 Roy and Silo, two New York Central Park Zoo male Chinstrap Penguins became internationally known when they coupled. Later on when they were found ‘hatching’ a stone they were given an egg that needed hatching and care. They not only successfully hatched it but also brought up the female hatchling becoming an uncommon mascot of the global gay movement. But just one year on Silo's eye began to wander and he dumped Roy to take with a female. This ‘tale of betrayal, sexual identity and penguin lust’ jolted the gay movement.

This is a pair of bullets that collided during the Gallipoli (Gelibolu) Campaign of the WWI. The bullets embedded into each other were found by a farmer plowing his fields seventy-five years after the battle had concluded in 1915. These bullets are displayed in the Naval Museum in the city of Çanakkale. The odds for collision of two bullets, each traveling close to 1,500 m/sec, are abysmally low. (In 1895 there were only two automobiles in the entire City of Cleveland, and they collided. That probability was much higher, considering the pedestrian speeds that such vehicles could travel in those days, than for two bullets traveling at supersonic speeds to collide.) The factor that must be considered is the astonishing density of bullets flying through the air in that horrific battle.

There are few who dare to dream and fewer who make that dream a reality. A 65-year old woman, who lost her husband at the age of 23 due to lack of medical treatment, has today set up a hospital to make sure everyone doesn't suffer the same fate as she did.

The image that the mention of the word Mumbai conjures up is that of an upstart of a city that made it good due to its colonial past; a city whose existence is nothing more than a recent blip in the endless timeline of Indian history; a city which has no rich cultural past to be proud of, and a city which certainly has no spiritual tradition.

“Is that high-pitched voice really mine?” “Do I actually speak in such a shrill voice?” OR “There must be some problem with the recording instrument. This is definitely not my voice.” The reaction varies from an embarrassed grin to utter dismay to complete disbelief to outright rejection when you hear your recorded voice for the first time. You refuse to believe that the shallow, ear piercing sound is your own voice, the one you have been hearing all our lives. Sorry. There is nothing wrong with the recording equipment or the speakers. The problem lies in your head. Literally.
