State public universities to have Samarth project for complete information management

Bhubaneswar: The Centre has come up with a Samarth enterprise resource planning (ERP) system for higher education institutions of the country. The Odisha government has decided to implement it. This project will help the state public universities and autonomous colleges to make these institutions paperless and keep every record of faculties, students and staff in its database digitally.
The project is being implemented by the University of Delhi (DU). Official sources said Samarth is an ERP automation software designed to help higher education institutions (HEIs) in the country migrate from paper-based, unreliable third-party ERP systems to a secure, reliable, and scalable one.
The state government has already sent a confirmation letter to implement this Samarth ERP suite in HEIs of Odisha. Asoka Kumar Das, vice-chairman of Odisha State Higher Education Council (OSHEC), was identified as nodal officer for coordination among the state public universities and autonomous colleges and the Samarth team of University of Delhi.
Das said OSHEC will act as nodal agency for implementation of the ERP. “The project team will start the on-boarding process of the ERP suite at the earliest. We will first implement it in 14 state public universities. Later it will be done in the autonomous colleges. Two persons (nodal officer and associate nodal officer) from each university will manage the project in their respective institution,” he added.
He said the ERP project will manage ‘student development life cycle’ and ‘e-governance for institutions/universities’. It has categories like accounts and finance, academics, administration, base modules, student related services, establishment, governance and HR.
Under accounts and finance category, an institution can fill up information for bill tracking system, fee management, payroll management, budget and accounts and procurement of goods. Sub-categories under academics are programme, academics management, evaluation and grading, research management and training of trainers management.
Under the administration category, a university can feed data for affiliation management, endowment portal, research project management system, file management and tracking system. Student related services category will have student feedback, admission, alumni portal, hostel management and training and placement.
