168 universities join CUET-UG 2023 so far, date to be extended till March end


New Delhi: Up from 90 in 2022, 168 universities, including the 44 Central Universities, are now part of the Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG 2023) as on Thursday. According to government sources there are another 30 universities plus which will be accepting common entrance test scores for undergraduate admissions for the 2023-24 academic session. The online application for the CUET-UG which is scheduled to end on March 12 will be extended till the end of the month, as more universities are joining the test. On Tuesday, University of Kashmir (KU) announced the joining of CUET.
Professor Nilofer Khan, vice-chancellor, KU said the detailed admission notification for various UG programmes for its affiliated colleges have been made available on the university website.
Of the 168 universities 31 are State universities which include Barkatullah University, Bhopal, Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economics, Karnataka, Cotton University, Guwahati, and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi, among others. There are 27 deemed universities which will admit students based on CUET scores for their undergraduate programmes. 66 private universities too are participating in the common entrance test this year which include Bennett University, Uttar Pradesh, NIIT University, Rajasthan, and UPES – Dehradun.
CUET-UG was introduced last year and a total of 9.14 lakh candidates registered for the test, of which 4.03 lakh are female candidates. University of Delhi (6.05 lakh) received has highest number of applications, followed by Banaras Hindu University (3.91 lakh) and University of Allahabad (2.33 lakh). State-wise 2.86 lakh candidates were from Uttar Pradesh, followed by 1.32 lakh from Delhi and 70,004 from Bihar.
There were 21,159 candidates who scored 100 percentile in CUET-UG 2022 of which 12,799 were female candidates. There were 12 candidates who scored 100 percentile in five subjects. English has the highest number of 100 percentile scorers with 8,236 candidates, followed by political science with 2,065 candidates, and business studies with 1,669 candidates.
